Alaako Oso: The Owner of Songs is Eloquent

Alaako Oso is derived from the Yoruba language of southwestern Nigeria which means, “the owner of songs is eloquent.” This music project is the US debut of long time and accomplished artist Amma McKen and features the group of which she is the co-founder Omiyesa. The Artistic Director is Amma’s mentor and esteemed Cuban artist and accomplished batá drummer Orlando “Puntilla” Rios, founder of the group Nueva Generación.

This project is a compilation of music deriving from the Yoruba cultural tradition and religion known as Lucumi in Cuba and the United States. The songs feature the music sacred to the tradition that allows practitioners to acknowledge and worship Olodumare “God” and the Orisas “those elements that personify God.”

This project demonstrates as it is so adequately titled the emergence of singer Amma McKen from the bembes to the theatres and stages of world.  Through this CD, Amma “eloquently speaks” through the richness of song to the depth of everyone’s emotions, to the needs of all humanity, to the desires of ones heart, and that is to recognize and honor oneself by honoring the love within yourself…which is GOD, the Creator.
